Hans Liljeberg’s story began in 1968 in the heart of a sparsely populated Jefferson Parish, where he and his four siblings were raised on the belief that hard work pays dividends and education opens doors. He followed that path through Catholic schools, earned a business degree from Tulane University, and later graduated from Tulane Law. While in law school, he studied abroad and trained under U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, an experience that shaped both his discipline and his legal philosophy.
Liljeberg’s rise in the legal world was striking. At just 25, he played a key role in holding General Motors accountable in a nationwide classaction safety recall. By 34, he became the youngest member of the 24th Judicial District Court, known for clearing his docket with efficiency and precision. At 44, he was elected without opposition to the Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, becoming its youngest judge. Over the years, he earned a reputation as one of Jefferson Parish’s most trusted jurists.
His public service extended beyond the bench. As a prosecutor, he pursued major felony cases and led drug asset forfeiture efforts. As a judge, he issued firm, timely decisions and protected communities from career criminals through tough sentencing. As a Tulane instructor, he has prepared a generation of students in business law and trial advocacy. And as a father, he and his wife Stacey raised seven daughters who have gone on to careers in business, medicine, and law.
Today, Liljeberg brings that same steady temperament and analytical rigor to his role on the Jefferson Parish Council. His tenure has been marked by a focus on practical improvements that touch daily life: widening Causeway Boulevard to ease congestion, expanding rearlot parking to support small businesses along Metairie Road, modernizing drainage and lighting, and investing in recreation from new pickleball courts at Pontiff Playground to enhancements at the Bonnabel Shore Path and Bucktown Tot Lot. He has supported environmental resilience through the parish’s pioneering living shoreline project and backed neighborhoodlevel improvements such as restored memorials, upgraded signage, and creative public art installations.
Across courtrooms, classrooms, and now council chambers, Liljeberg’s approach has remained consistent: measured, collaborative, and rooted in service. His record reflects a leader shaped by Jefferson Parish and committed to strengthening it ... one decision, one project, and one conversation at a time.
